First Credit Card Program
First time borrowers are often stuck in a Catch 22 - You can't get a loan because you have no credit history. You can't establish good credit history without getting a loan.
Glacier Hills Credit Union offers a first credit card program for students age 16 or older. The program is NOT to encourage building up debt. Instead, it is a learning tool. By borrowing with a low credit limit and paying the balance each month, students will learn to use credit responsibly.
To qualify for the program, you must be at least 16 years old, show proof of income, and have your parent's permission. You must also review our credit quiz and get 100% on our credit test.
The Glacier Hills Visa Platinum Credit Card was rated 5-Stars by Suze Orman (www.creditconnection.org). Here’s why it received a top rating:
- It’s a Good Value - The GHCU Visa Platinum has no annual fee, no balance
transfer fee, no cash advance fee and a low rate.
- It can Protect you from Hefty Overdraft Fees - The Visa Platinum can be set
up to automatically transfer money to checking to cover an overdraft, with no
fee to make the transfer.
- It’s Easy to Make Advances and Payments - A simple transfer in It’sMe247 from
checking will make a payment, and vice versa to make an advance.
- The Due Date does not Fluctuate Monthly - Some cards change their due
dates each month, which can be confusing and hard to remember. GHCU
credit card payments are always due on the 28th of the month.
